Advanced Electronic Briefs

Legal Writing to Win ()

Minimally complying with the e-briefing rules is the baseline. What can advocates do to make their briefs even more helpful to Texas judges?

This talk went through some of the techniques I’ve developed over the past five years for making e-briefs, along with my thought process for which things to emphasize. Some of the topics included:

  • The different ways that an e-brief might be displayed in iPad apps as compared to desktop apps, and how that should guide your choices in making e-briefs

  • How to make bookmarks that work better on the iPad than the standard nested style

  • How to make hyperlinks that work well on (most) any platform

The live talk featured some video “screencasts” that I made to demonstrate specific techniques and tips that I have developed. (The screencasts are not included here for space reasons.)
