Lessons and Surprises from the Past Four Terms (2006-2009)
Austin Bar Civil Appellate Section ()Between August 2005 and September 2009, the lineup of Justices stayed exactly the same at the Texas Supreme Court. After a decade with frequent retirements, appointments, and even a primary-election loss by an incumbent, the Court experienced stability.
The stability of the Court was a unique chance to work up some new voting statistics to analyze how these nine Justices tended to vote together or not, as well as some comparisons of that with the more well-known patterns on the U.S. Supreme Court.
