Current Happenings at the Texas Supreme Court

Dallas Federalist Society ()

This was a joint presentation with Justice Willett to the Dallas chapter of the Federalist Society, covering some of the larger trends at the Texas Supreme Court.

Topics included:

  • how the voting clusters at the Texas Supreme Court compare to those on the U.S. Supreme Court;

  • how the frequency of dissent on the Texas Supreme Court compares to the U.S. Supreme Court;

  • the longer-term trend of which Justices on the Texas Supreme Court have had their own views prevail in closely divided. Cases, as the Court has absorbed new members in recent years; and

  • the role of amici curiae in the Texas Supreme Court.

The slides below represent my views alone and much of the data was drawn from my own docket-tracking system.
