The Texas Supreme Court at the Seventh Inning Stretch

Austin Bar Appellate Section ()

This was a joint presentation made with Kurt Kuhn to the Austin Bar’s appellate section.

In the first part of the talk, I presented the latest statistical snapshot of the Texas Supreme Court’s term and how it compares to the past few terms. I also presented some of my own tracking data (and a few theories) about how the Texas Supreme Court’s new opinion calendar may be affecting what lawyers can expect in terms of petition grants and (surprisingly) affirmance rates.

In the second part of the talk, Kurt discussed the recent Texas Supreme Court opinions that may be of most interest to appellate practitioners.
